Why These Two Days Are So Special
The 9th and 10th of Muharram, also known as Tasu’a and Ashura, are among the most spiritually significant days in the Islamic calendar. These days are not only marked by fasting and reflection but are deeply rooted in our Islamic heritage, filled with lessons of patience, unwavering faith, and ultimate sacrifice.
🌙 What Happened on 10th Muharram (Ashura)?
- The Prophet Musa (AS) was saved from Pharaoh, and in gratitude, he fasted on this day.
- The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“I am closer to Musa than they,” and he also fasted on this day and encouraged the Muslims to do so. - Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of the Prophet ﷺ, was martyred in Karbala, defending truth, justice, and the pure message of Islam.
🌟 Why Do Muslims Fast on 9th and 10th Muharram?
- The Prophet ﷺ advised Muslims to fast on both days to distinguish their practice from that of the Jews, who only fasted on the 10th.
- Fasting on Ashura is a sunnah and carries immense reward.
“Fasting the day of Ashura, I hope Allah will expiate (forgive) the sins of the year before it.” (Sahih Muslim)
